I felt compelled to write an open letter to Christians voicing appreciation of a company affiliated with hate groups. Yes, hate groups - people banding together to encourage divisiveness and to spew hatred. By "appreciating" hate groups, Christian values are exemplified as self-righteous, judgmental and hateful. Considering this, I find it odd that hate groups and their supporters believe “God is on their side”. If one is humble in their devotional practice and has listened to the voice of God, they would understand the Creator does not choose sides, nor does our Creator hate. We are all children of God, all equally loved. Christians are not the voice of God
; the voice of God whispers kindness, acceptance and tolerance. What I find particularly disturbing is the Christian belief "no other point of view is valid or worthy of God's love". Hate groups have ascertained "if you choose to live outside of their belief system, you will be demeaned and viewed as evil". Sadly, their actions validate their limited understanding God's love. Certain Indigenous cultures value their homosexual members; they are considered to be "a direct link to the sacred" and as such, highly revered by the community. Why are these cultures and their spiritual beliefs “wrong” and the Christian values “correct”? Hate groups quote the Bible based on their selective interpretation; however, quotes not serving their agenda are never touted (such as) "The meek shall inherit the earth". Meek, as defined by Webster: gentle; courteous; kind; merciful; compassionate.
I believe there is more than enough hatred in our world. Perhaps those who "appreciate" hate groups may one day align with groups embracing kindness, compassion and gentleness.
"The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool". Proverbs 10:18
"Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses". Proverbs 10:11
